WAUKEE — Marshalltown senior diver Kate Hauser qualified for the state diving competition for the third year in a row after winning her regional meet on Thursday night at the Waukee Natatorium.
Hauser finished nearly 10 points ahead of her nearest competitor in the meet, scoring 421.95 to take the automatic state diving berth. Bailey Mahoney of Waukee Northwest was the runner-up, scoring 412.05 over the 11-dive competition.
Hauser’s score has her seeded 10th for the state meet, which will be next Friday at the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA. Mahoney — one of five at-large qualifiers from the Waukee region — is seeded 11th.
Hauser finished 19th in last year’s state meet and she was 26th as a sophomore.
Kamila Swanson of Iowa City West has the high qualifying score, posting a 494.2 to win her respective regional. Holli Hetzer of Southeast Polk (491.1) and Audrey Doud of Dowling Catholic (461.3) round out the top three.
The state diving competition is Friday, Nov. 15, at 4:30 p.m. in Marshalltown.
